A Room of My Own

I have lived in my 70 year old cottage for almost a decade now. I remember writing in my journal, scribing actually, before I knew what scribing was. I wrote about how I dreamed of owning an older home with a barn, hopefully within city limits. I found it, a yellow house with a wrap around porch, that was a perfect place to sit, drink tea and watch the hummingbirds flit around the roses.

Ten years ago, I bought this house of dreams, and I have to say it was one of the biggest accomplishments of my life. I bought and moved into this dream house with two teenage daughters, on an adventure to start over. It was here that we celebrated birthdays, Christmases, graduations wedding and baby showers. It is a place with good bones, and a sense of peace.

It seemed a little frivolous to build myself a home office. I thought I could work anywhere. I tried to work at my kitchen table, I tried to work in my bedroom propped up with pillows, I tried to work in the living room while watching Netflix. The thing is, I needed a place of my own; a place where I wanted to spend time and be creative.

This is my Christmas gift to myself.
